INTRODUCTION

Cori is an AI chatbot for senior healthcare, a personalized and cognitive-focused senior healthcare service for elderly people by integrating TV and AI speaker. This idea came from my grandparents, who watch lots of time TV at home. My team secured 4th place at the SiliconX Hackathon out of 24 teams.

Did you know…

Elderly people who feel lonely and bored have a high probability of experiencing health problems such as depression, Alzheimer's, and others. It's also difficult for dependent children who live far away in caring for their elderly parents.

  • Lonely individuals aged 60 to 79 are three times more likely to develop dementia compared to those who do not feel lonely.

  • 56.4% of seniors aged 65 and older are not familiar with digital technology, such as using smartphones or tablet PCs.

  • Many seniors are hesitant to use IoT systems that include cameras, as they feel watched.

It all comes from  my story…

As a granddaughter who lives far from my country, I was aware that grandparents watch television all the time, staying at home and losing perception and cognition abilities little by little.

DESIGN CHALLENGE:

"How can we encourage older adults to interact with the AI as their new friend?"

Through observing my family, I found that the key is “interaction”, leveraging TV and AI Speaker.

It reminded me that seniors, including my grandparents and parents, were interacting with AI speakers with curiosity, asking very random questions like…

“Alexa! What’s the highest mountain in the world?”

“Your name is Genie? Please take care of my granddaughter, Genie! ”

I thought engaging in various activities and interacting with AI speaker could enhance cognitive function by providing opportunities for cognitive stimulation.

SOLUTION

Cori is a personalized healthcare companion that uses AI Quiz to learn about an older adult'’ health profile and recommends activities to improve their well-being. It integrates with a TV monitor and speaker, guiding users through activities through voice interaction and helpful advanced features such as watching videos and telling their thoughts, testing their memory+@ that can prevent senior's health problems in advance. When Cori asks questions, users will answer through a connected speaker, and they are converted to text and saved in the cloud system.

SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Cori's data usage is extensive;

  • Older adults can prevent memory diseases, and manage their health.

  • Family members receive daily reports about the user's health and activities and can send recommended gifts based on the analyzed data to express their love and affection.

  • For healthcare providers, Cori provides the user's health data so it can be helpful for their further treatment. It empowers users with personalized healthcare and keeps them connected to the support they need.

FINAL PROTOTYPE—Demo videos: So how does it work?

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A creative idea integrated with TV and a QA (Question and Answering) AI system, which does not currently exist in the market. Friendly interactions and visual design connect users, their family members, and healthcare providers in the loop.

What we learned

✨🧐Critical & Creative Thinking Skills

We wanted to start with a worthy problem to solve, and that requires critical thinking. We kept discussing thoughts about users, personas, user journeys, design strategies, market situations, what the current obstacles are, and what would make our service stand out + @. As a result, the ultimate design question that we found was, "How are we going to help older adults interact friendly with the AI service?"

What's next?

We would like to develop the business model more in detail, showing and receiving constructive feedback (what’s feasible and what’s not) from startup investors and healthcare professionals in order to launch the actual product.
